what is the baby registry (tbr)?

tbr is an independent information service providing free help to parents in the UK. This site was created and is maintained by a group of parents and filled with the kind of information we found helpful when we were starting out.

We can't tell you how to be perfect parents because we don't know any. But we can help you to get reliable facts straight from the experts and give you practical advice based on our experiences with our own families.

Of course you want the best for your baby. But remember, even with the best will in the world, you can't do everything. You need to decide what's worth worrying about and what isn't.

You are welcome to print any pages for your own personal use. If you can't find what you're looking for use the site map or search the site.

We hope you enjoy the site. If you have any comments or suggestions please let us know.

new 'baby blues' helpline

nct have announced that they have just set up a new postnatal helpline.  Manned by qualified NCT postnatal leaders, the helpline offers support to new mums that may be struggling with having a new baby and the inevitable changes that comes with a new addition to the family.  Research by the nhs shows that 8 in 10 new mums suffer from some sort of baby blues three to four after giving birth.  Well now help is at hand......

You can call the Postnatal Helpline on 0300 330 0773.  It is open between 9.00am to 1.00pm, Monday to Friday.  Calls are charged at local call rates.

baby show 2010

Don't forget that there is still time to book tickets for the last Baby Show of 2010 at Earls Court London (22-24 October).

If you haven't visited the show in the past try and make some time to take a day out and treat yourself. There's masses to see and experience for the new and expectant parent; thousands of 'must-have' products from all the UK's leading brands; expert advice on pregnancy, birth and parenting skills; and entertainment for all the family.

Tickets are available now and can be ordered from www.thebabyshow.co.uk

child trust funds - baby bonds

Despite masses of advertising for the government's Child Trust Fund scheme, recent reports have suggested that more than half of the vouchers issued have yet to be cashed.   And what's more, the government have made an announcement that it is reducing payments from August 1st 2010 and then scrapping the scheme from January 1st 2011.  So now is the time to act if you have a voucher while you can!

There is money still up for grabs.  Money that can be used to kick-start your child's savings - so make sure you do not miss out.

If you have received a voucher for your child, you have 12 months from the date of issue to decide what type of scheme you want to invest the money in (see the expiry date on the voucher) - otherwise the government will decide for you.

There are three basic choices.  A cash account that pays interest free of tax each year; a stakeholder account that invests the money in shares; and a potentially higher risk, but potentially higher return, pure equity share account.

To find out more information call the helpline on 0845 302 1470 or visit www.childtrustfund.gov.uk

The helpline can also advise you on what to do if you have lost the voucher.

tommy's the baby charity needs you

Would you be interested in taking part in a case study?

As part of it's awareness-raising programme to highlight issues of pregnancy complications, Tommy's, the baby charity, is looking to speak to pregnant women and mothers of young children about their experiences of pregnancy.

Currently the team at Tommy's is particularly interested in hearing from women who through their pregnancy experienced a great deal of stress; had worries over negative thoughts about their unborn baby; put on a lot of weight and experienced complications or even developed an eating disorder; continued to smoke, drink or take drugs; had a jealous partner.

Of course, if your partner would like to share their experiences then Tommy's would love to hear from them as well.

For further information please contact Kristy MacLeod in the Tommy's press office on 020 7398 3440.  You can also email Kristy - kmacleod@tommys.org

Remember to mention tbr!
